Thank you for visiting my website. After a very hectic 18 months of retraining as a boatbuilder in Portsmouth, becoming a father for the first time and landing a job as a shipwright at the National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) in Hartlepool things are finally starting to settle down. With that in mind I hope to be able to bring you some updates on my work aboard HMS Trincomalee (1817) at the museum.
I am a very green shipwright so my work at the NMRN is a steep learning curve, having completed my training at the International Boatbuilding Training Centre (IBTC), Portsmouth, in August 2022. Immediately after my training, I worked for a short time at Vortec Marine in Gosport, Hampshire, before relocating to the north east of England.
Through my blog I hope to give you some insight into my role as a shipwright for a historic vessel, show you some of the different jobs I have to do and post photographs of some of my work. Pictures will posted in the gallery which currently features some snaps of different parts of my training.
Please remember, I am still learning and I am always open to discussion and suggestions should you have experience to share or questions to ask.
Thanks,
Tom
